#1 REASON WHY I OPPOSE SPRAWL:

The more recent Henderson Directories are oversized and harder to navigate because of all the additional streets (that I have no interest in researching).

There are lots of things in Winnipeg that used to be different things than they are now.

I am so sick and tired of Glen Murray’s preposterous overfunding of the Floodway Alien Defense System (FADS). Everyone knows that Duff Roblin’s original plan was FUCKING FINE.

"Today I was looking through the 1911 Henderson Directory, and found out that Eaton’s had an “infant carriage shelter” on the east side of Donald Street, where the Met Theatre stands today. While I generally regard off-street vehicle storage as a terrible use of land downtown, this made even my callous heart melt a little—imagining all those Gibson Girl-looking mothers pushing their young sons dressed in lace dresses to the T. Eaton Co. for a day of shopping. Sigh."
All I want for Christmas is a continuous streetscape of aged, mixed-use buildings on small blocks.

Top Ten List of Winnipeg’s Greatest Assets: #10

You’ve probably been reading my annual lists of Top Ten People Adequately Living an Urbo-Traditional Lifestyle in Winnipeg - and truthfully, I’m getting a bit tired of calling the Polish Press or hanging out at the Ukrainian Voice looking for interviews. So this year, I’m changing things up a bit and highlighting the Top Ten Greatest Assets of Winnipeg.

#10: Susan Kawalchuk, Evening-shift Secretary at the Archives of Manitoba
Susan
Susan and I are on a first-name basis. She sometimes even calls me “Rob.” She doesn’t mind when I stay really late and has - this year - finally gotten the hint not to mention that I should go home to my wife and children after 8pm. Aside from that, what really set Susan apart this year from other years is that she finally gave me my own pair of cotton handling gloves.

I’m pretty tired and hungover today, so check-out this shit you could have googled.

Winnipeg has never had walkable streets, you dummies.
